Welcome Message From President

Welcome Message From the President

28th Family Medicine Scientific Conference 2026

It is my great honour to welcome all of you to the 28th Family Medicine Specialists Conference 2026. This year’s theme, “Caring Through Change: Evolving Role of Primary Care Professionals,” reflects the dynamic landscape in which we practise today.

Primary care is no longer confined to the consultation room. As Family Medicine Specialists, we remain grounded in our core identity as clinicians—providing comprehensive, continuous, and person-centred care. Yet the demands of our communities, health system reforms, digital transformation, and shifting disease patterns require us to evolve beyond traditional roles.

We must embrace leadership—not only in managing complex multimorbidity, preventive care, and community health—but also in shaping policies, driving service innovation, strengthening multidisciplinary collaboration, and advocating for equitable access to care. The future of primary care must not be defined for us; it must be shaped by us.

As we gather, let us reflect on how we can strengthen our clinical excellence while building capacity in governance, digital health, research, and system redesign. Change is inevitable. Leadership is intentional. Together, we will continue to anchor the health system and ensure
that primary care remains responsive, resilient, and relevant for generations to come.

As we engage in meaningful discussions, let us also take time to appreciate our host state this year—beautiful Pahang. From its serene beaches and lush highlands to its rich cultural heritage, Pahang offers a refreshing backdrop for reflection and renewal. Use this opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, strengthen friendships, expand networks, and recharge together.

And of course, do not miss the chance to explore local treasures—batik Pahang, traditional woven products, ikan patin dishes, local coffee, kerepek, and unique handmade crafts that make perfect gifts.

I encourage all participants to engage actively in discussions, exchange ideas openly, and embrace new perspectives that will enrich our daily practice.

We look forward to welcoming you to Kuantan for FMSC 2026. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any assistance. Our team is committed to ensuring that FMSC 2026 will be both meaningful and memorable for all participants.

May this conference inspire growth, leadership, and lasting connections.

Welcome to FMSC 2026. See you in Kuantan!

As we gather in Kuantan, Pahang, this conference provides a valuable opportunity for family medicine specialists, primary care practitioners, researchers and healthcare professionals to come together and reflect on the changing landscape of healthcare delivery.

Primary care continues to play a critical role in ensuring accessible, comprehensive and patient-centred healthcare. In the midst of rapid advancements in medical science, digital technologies and evolving patient needs, family medicine remains the cornerstone of a resilient healthcare system. Our discipline is uniquely positioned to bridge innovation with the enduring values of continuity of care, holistic management and strong community engagement.

28th Family Medicine Scientific Conference 2026

I am deeply honoured to welcome all esteemed delegates to the Family Medicine Scientific Conference 2026.

The chosen theme, Caring Through Change: The Evolving Role of Primary Care Professionals, reflects the expanding and evolving responsibilities of family medicine specialists in strengthening primary care, the foundation of our healthcare system.

Amid pressing healthcare challenges, including an ageing population, the dual burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases, rising medical litigation, and escalating healthcare costs, generalists remain uniquely positioned to deliver comprehensive and coordinated care.

FMCS 2026 has been thoughtfully designed to equip primary care professionals with the competencies required to navigate these complexities. The scientific programme spans a wide range of areas, from tropical diseases and maternal and child health to chronic disease management, mental health, medical ethics and law, as well as the integration of artificial intelligence in medicine. This forward-looking agenda reinforces the commitment to sustaining high standards in primary care.

I extend my sincere appreciation to the FMCS 2026 Organising Committee for their leadership and dedication, as well as to the Family Medicine Specialists’ Association (FMSA) for their continued efforts in advancing the specialty.

May this conference serve as a catalyst for transformative progress, meaningful collaboration, and sustained excellence in primary care.

28th Family Medicine Scientific Conference 2026

It is with profound pleasure that I convey my heartfelt congratulations to the Organising Committee of the Family Medicine Scientific Conference (FMSC) 2026 for their remarkable leadership, meticulous planning, and unwavering commitment in bringing this prestigious scientific event to fruition.

As a well-established annual platform, FMSC continues its tradition of uniting dedicated practitioners, academics, and healthcare leaders through sustained professional engagement and meaningful knowledge exchange, contributing to the ongoing strengthening of primary healthcare nationwide.

The theme, Caring Through Change: The Evolving Role of Primary Care Professionals, aptly reflects the expanding and dynamic responsibilities of family medicine specialists in Malaysia. As healthcare needs grow increasingly complex, primary care physicians must not only adapt to change but also lead transformation within the healthcare system. Today, family physicians serve not only as clinicians but also as educators, advocates, coordinators, innovators, and leaders, playing a pivotal role in fostering a cohesive and integrated healthcare system.

I acknowledge the Family Medicine Specialists’ Association (FMSA) for developing a well-structured and comprehensive scientific programme that brings together a wide spectrum of timely and relevant topics, essential in shaping the future of healthcare delivery within our region and beyond.

May this conference stimulate meaningful dialogue, inspire innovation, and strengthen our shared commitment to advancing primary care as the foundation of universal health coverage.

To all delegates, I wish you a productive, enriching, and inspiring FMCS 2026.
