Dr Chin Kuen Yei is a medical doctor and non-practising lawyer with nearly two decades of experience in medico legal practice, working at the intersection of healthcare and law. Her work focuses on the evolving challenges of negligence law, particularly within the Malaysian legal context. After four years of experience working in the medico-legal field, she pursued a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP). She later advanced her expertise with a Masters in Health Research Ethics (MOHRE) from Universiti Malaya in 2021. She is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Western Australia, examining civil liability surrounding the use of AI in clinical tools. Her research interests focus on exploring the civil liability arising from the use of AI clinical tools, particularly the legal ramifications and regulatory approaches in Australia and Malaysia. Her work also examines the associated medico-legal considerations, including issues relating to standards of care, professional responsibility, causation, and accountability. Ultimately, her research aims to contribute towards the development of a robust legal and medico-legal framework for the safe and responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Her work seeks to support medical professionals in understanding and navigating potential liability risks in AI-assisted clinical decision- making, while fostering public trust in the technology, healthcare institutions, and the medical profession.
