Jeremy Balang is the Head of the Medical and Personal Injury Department at MahWengKwai & Associates, where he leads the firm's medico-legal practice. He acts for patients, hospitals, healthcare providers, and professional indemnity insurers in medical negligence disputes, and has appeared as counsel in trials and appeals before the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Federal Court of Malaysia. His caseload spans a wide range of clinical specialities, from obstetrics and emergency medicine to neurosurgery and aesthetic practice. He also represents clients in disciplinary proceedings before the Malaysian Medical Council. Having acted on both sides of medico-legal disputes, Jeremy brings a perspective that is attuned to the concerns of clinicians and patients alike. He has a particular interest in how legal developments in medical negligence shape the environment in which healthcare professionals practise, and has spoken on these issues at conferences in Malaysia, Singapore, and internationally, including at the World Congress for Medical Law and the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australasian College of Legal Medicine. Jeremy is a member of the Medico-Legal Society of Malaysia and was called to the Bar in 2018 following his legal studies at Cardiff University.
